The Nostalgia Effect

Sing “Yesterday” for Me, a story of a red thread error, has a vibe like this: listening to a nostalgic story with your friends makes you want to go to a place where your thoughts trigger a dreamy effect. When you arrived at the site, you looked around. However, there is a room by itself where other people’s illusions and imagery cannot be seen. You see the shadows are you in the past having a conversation like a young person.

Plunging deep, you smiled to yourself at the clouds and suddenly wanted to repeat what the illusion had triggered. This trigger makes you want to re-engineer an event from the past but space and time speak differently. Your friends are doing their own business. Some are gone, some are married, and some still look the same today. It doesn’t matter when the nostalgia is only temporary.

Either you get pleasure or sadness fulfilled. However, just look at the good and bad sides. We don’t know what the future will be like. It is as if looking at a painting you have drawn in the past and seeing it now. You have never been an artist. It is like looking at your photos when in college and trying to keep going and moving forward. There is regret, and there is also gratitude. Some people say you have to move on; move on when you want to move on, and achieve that success.

It doesn’t matter what happened in the past. However, it would be a big mistake when you use that for just an escape. Because, in fact, there is nothing wrong with the past. Perhaps there is a problem in the past you have never solved. You intend to solve it in the present as soon as possible and must. Sing “Yesterday” for Me symbolizes these moments as a story of a red thread error.

The Breaking Chains

Relationships are like a chain. When the chain breaks, you can still return it to how it was, but it won’t look like the original chain. However, what if the broken chain is connected with a chain that does not match? You simply put a chain on a rope. The logic will definitely break again, but it goes back to how the string has a string loop. At least, the chains were connected, but you made a mistake.

You broke the chain, and you put it in the wrong relationship. The chain is indeed an essential item and does not break easily. Still, you can also damage the chain either on purpose or accidentally. In essence, we just have to keep looking for a chain connection to make it look solid again. When the chains match, the chains will be whole again and will stay healthy forever. The most straightforward language is first love, the first impression when you see him/her, and when you learn and recognize it further, you know that this is the moment.

Sing “Yesterday” for Me begins when Haru Nonoka found a typical red thread error when she was in high school when she met Rikuo while dropping a paper. Haru looked at the form while calling out to him because he dropped it. As it turned out, the piece was critical, and he was very, very grateful to Haru. For Haru, this is the moment that will determine how the relationship will be, even though the red thread is consistently distant.

Still, she is always sure if this is her. She is the perfect chain.

A Story of a Red Threat Error

Sing “Yesterday” for Me as a red thread error tells the story of Rikuo Uozumi, a part-time worker at a convenience store. In contrast, he still has doubts about his job, and so is his future; he is a little nil apart from not being interested in anything in his life. All changed when he fed a crow behind his workplace. A young girl named Haru Nonaka approached him. She is energetic, uncomfortable but intelligent in building a relationship.

Rikuo always has guests where he cannot accept this girl’s existence. It becomes a realization of whether he has found an error and the meaning of life in him. Haru is not the type of person who tries to reach her prize from the start. How many times she is far away but still calls for it no matter what. She comes back, tries to get closer to Rikuo, tries to flirt with him, and wants to reach that romantic interest.

On the other hand, Rikuo is also trying to improve relationships and confess old feelings to his college friends. Regardless of his long graduation, Rikuo is also trying to capture the attention of his crush, Shinako Morinome. Shinako is a former crush of Rikuo. The tale begins where Rikuo, on the process side, has a dilemma with these feelings. The chain suddenly wavered but was forced to reattach the long broken chain so that he would know what really was wrong.

Haru finds out that Rikuo still has a crush on Shinako despite Shinako being Haru’s teacher when Haru was in school. The battle over mutual interests about liking the same person between Haru and Shinako begins when Haru makes a challenge. However, Shinako thought that she didn’t have a crush on Rikuo. This point also explores a new but old chain about Shinako’s relationship with Rou Hayakawa’s brother regardless of Rou and desires Shinako.

On the other hand, Shinako has always thought of her relationship with Rou as just a brother and sister. Rou tries to correct any misconceptions about this perspective. The chain so that how convoluted and biased do not exist. They were taking back the chains that are still not connected but continue to question whether these are suitable or not.

Stuck in the Sound

Sing “Yesterday” for Me is generally about Rikuo realizing that he has no future. Keep looking in the mirror with his college friends now, he realized that even though he had got a job, he still felt that this was not much. His hobby, not wholly, as a photographer, also keeps questioning until he realizes that let him go according to his flow. In short, the transformation between Rikuo from nil, self-aware to his existential, to knowing his current and chain is the central part.

Rikuo Uozumi: Denialism

Rikuo’s transformation of no real goal working at a convenience store began when Shinako, once again, reentered Rikuo’s life. Looking back on their college days, Rikuo’s feelings for Shinako once again emerge. He did know that he would be unacceptable because Shinako saw Rikuo as a figure similar to the one she loved. Things started to change when Haru also got into this linking chain game.

On the other hand, Haru even knew that she would not be accepted at first. Rikuo had a date when he was in school; besides, he was very awkward when alone with a woman. However, who would have thought he was constantly changing, unconscious, and helping his friends’ chains and those around him. Despite all, moment by moment, he was usually running away from the bitter or sweet reality of his life.

His understanding of a person’s relationship, life, future, work, etc., apart from being relatable and subjective. He becomes the support character of all the characters in this show.

Haru Nonaka: Egotism

Haru is like a reflection of Rikuo’s life itself as if it was an inverse appeal of an examination of Rikuo’s characteristics and traits. At first, Rikuo saw Haru as just an annoyance. He always keeps his distance because Rikuo has an egoism that he wants to fulfill; besides, she wants to connect the chains earlier. However, Haru is the epitome of don’t give up as much as she can. She tried to grab that chain, try to get to it, and try again and again so she could and could.

The point of love at first sight, besides being cliché, is like how humans are always triggered by something they see first, so they want to achieve it in such a way and must. The possibility of Haru’s character is still distracting initially and, like Rikuo, is full of egocentricity hiding in energetic heights. Her courage, although in a wrong way but in reality like that, needs to be acknowledged.

After Rikuo admits that he has finally found a suitable chain without fulfilling his own egocentricity, she becomes a chain match at the end of the story.

Shinako Morinome: Favouritism

In most a particular moment, Haru asked Shinako if Shinako had feelings, like Haru, for Rikuo. Although the denial and compatibility are uncertain, Shinako, of all the characters, is most trapped in the past. Afraid to move on with the past because the people she loves passed away, she learned more about Rikuo from her approach during their college days and the present. She also denied specific options, including natural and honest viewpoints and opinions of Rou.

At the end of the show, she proves that she is only trying to be one-dimensional rather than expressing her feelings and honesty to the people around her, including Haru. Shinako can be said to be a rugged chain to find a match for herself. Yet, she is aware but continues to deny and bias towards herself and those around her.

Rou Hayakawa: Cynicism

Speaking of clinical, the safety pin earring, Rou, is more like a chain that is always broken and doesn’t want to apply oil. In short, he becomes a reflection of teens with so much angst to his surroundings. Reasonably, his standpoint makes him a character who tries to be recognized over and over again without having to understand how one’s egoism works. Honestly, all the characters in this show want to fulfill their own egocentricity.

However, she becomes the most “wild” chain starting from how she responds to her relationship with Shinako and how she resolves problems immeasurably. It could be said that Rou was, despite the wildness of Haru’s chains to match Rikuo’s, Rou was trapped into a, as it were, a labyrinth.

Recollection

All in all, they met a lot, as if time-travel was a flashback, lots of mishaps. However, when talking about the ending, the conclusion ends with Rikuo and Shinako realizing the incompatibility. Haru and Rou’s selfishness ends with whether the chain’s fit really fits into the future. Meeting people who you thought were intelligent and innocent in the past suddenly changed drastically in the present; it felt as if you were trying to concoct a sentence.

However, what never changes about these people is the intrinsic nature of each of them. It falls flat, in fact, for the sake of connecting and seeking out these relationships. It should also be remembered that they are still trapped in the past, jumping in the present, just like humans in general.
